I have been decamped from Glamour Twinkles HQ. Currently sequestered out of the CBD I have been somewhat silent on the Internet superhighway of data. I’ve got the cutest cat in the world, Buster, and we’re staying out in the ‘burbs with my parents while my bathroom is being renovated. So I don’t have any of my supplies with me. I didn’t think we would be out here more than a week. But things happen, plans change and we make do. Luckily I got a Craftrunner order at work. So I have the barest minimum of jewelry making tools. Rest assured I’ve been very unbusy. It’s a word. And an unaction. A verbing word. But, you’re not here to read fake English. You want to know what I haven’t been doing.

Well, me and my Ma went girl shopping on Saturday. We left Da at home with the two cats (that don’t get along) and we went to Spotlight. I take back some of be unkind things I’ve said about Spotlight. Only because they have some of my precious flat back Swarovski diamantes!! Yay!!

You’ll have to wait and see what I’m gonna do with ’em.

Oh what a productive weekend I have had myself this very weekend.  And clearly I’ve developed a case of overblown speakage.  My blog, my rules etc.

So last week I’m sitting at work – my computer was on a go slow which gave me a chance to write up a list of things to do for Glamour Twinkles.  I’ve been trying to come up with a brilliant tag line for my GTwinkles.  I know, I’ve been working on that for ages.  Well, more like putting it off for ages.  So I’m thinking about my different jewelry ranges: Tattoo Earrings, Swarovski Potion Necklaces, Bauble Rings and the like.

And then I remembered a range of necklaces that I’d put together for the last Thorndon Fair.  At the time I referred to them as “tropical necklaces” but that is just so not me at all, ever.  And I admit, the crappy name did make me neglect these necklaces.  Then inspiration struck.

I’m at work, writing my list of jewelry range names (trying to get inspired) and the cleverness is just flying out of my pen:

  • Pure-ity Rings – Rings With a Twisted Twist
  • Paranoia Necklaces – Someone’s Always Watching
  • Toy Hearts Necklaces – Toy Hearts Can’t Be Broken

Toy Hearts – utterly perfect name.  And to celebrate their perfect moniker I’ve spent this weekend re-shooting every Toy Heart Necklace I have (and there are about 12 of these little babies) and I even managed to load a couple onto Etsy (what??)  Yes.  I’m actually organized for once.

And that was my weekend – behind the camera.

Red Adjustable Beaded Bauble Ring by Glamour Twinkles Jewelry, available on Etsy

The colour of love, rage, danger – red speaks to us all over the place. We see red stop lights, red stop signs, we want red hair and those prone to anger see red everywhere.

Instead of seeing red, Glamour Twinkles Jewelry will have you wearing red.

Don’t get mad, get glamoured.  Imagine the radical redness of this statement Red Adjustable Beaded Bauble Ring, matched perfectly with the Red Rosebud Gothic Pagoda Earrings.

Amaze!!

Remember those drunken new years resolutions we all made 2 weeks ago? No? Well, this little twinkle remembers and is unveiling one of them now. I present to you my new regular Wednesday post: Behind the Twinkle. See, fulfilled my NYE resolution to do more with my blog.

Latest Listing – Behind the Twinkle

Light Blue Gothic Pagoda Earrings - available now on my Etsy shop

Light Blue Lampwork Gothic Pagoda Earrings

Remember when Jim Carrey did a serious movie and no one liked it? That’s how I’m feeling about the serious nature of this listing description. Where’s my trade mark hilarity? I just really wanted to add them to my shop, something to show for all the behind the scenes work that goes into listings. The mannequin photo shows the earrings at their realistic best but I’ve got plenty of other photos to fill up the rest of the picture boxes – Price US$22.

Red Gothic Pagoda Earrings - now available from my Etsy shop

Red Rosebud Gothic Pagoda Earrings

Ten points if you noticed that this description is virtually the same as the Light Blue Gothic Pagoda Earrings – sans Jim Carrey-like humour. I’m sure Jim C shops at Etsy – Price US$22.

Annoying glare, shot using an old Pop Art handbag for background

The humble photograph, probably the internet’s best friend. Online we see fabulous photos, scandalous photos and incredible photos. We know that these photographs have been carefully chosen from many other rejected shots. But what about the ones we never see.  We seldom lay eyes on the failure fotos, allowing us to imagine that the viage before us was simply snapped and then magically appeared on a blog or website or online shop. How wrong we are.
I spent literally hours reshooting Swarovski Potion Necklaces for my Etsy shop. I’ve never been happy with the necklaces photos I had in my shop.  They failed to capture the sparkling crystals, the subtle colours and the sparkliness within.  And its all because of my enemy – GLARE. I found myself bending into yoga-like contortions to get one shot that didn’t have a big white band of glare reflecting on the little potion bottles.  I read every hint on Etsy’s tips to take great photos.  I changed setting on my Pentax I-10 camera, I had paper tacked to the window, I held my camera in one hand whilst holding a DIY glare guard in a futile attempt to rid the potion bottles of that infernal glare.  Nothing seemed to be working.  I put the camera away and realising that I’d wasted a good three hours on futile photography attempts, I decided to tweet my anger with visual proof.  I leave the necklace where it is, snap a shot with my iPhone and . . . it was the best photo I had taken all day.

Glare, shadows, frusration building

Through tears of joy, I reshot the rest of the necklaces in less that 2 hours. What a relief.  Although it did feel a little strange taking somewhat important photographs with a cell phone but if you could’ve seen what I went through over the past two fruitless days you would understand.  And then, brilliant idea – BLOG IT.  Above I show you the rejected photos.  They stand as a testament to the glaring lack of focus I’ve had.  I think that line ties in rather nicely.  Below are the final iphone-a-riffic photos:

My clever little sister sent me this fabulous crystal that I fashioned into a necklace. Every time we visited our local Swarovski jewelry shop I would Oooo and Ahhh over the fact that the genius jewelers at Swarovski could drill holes into crystal. Lo and behold my sis finds me a crystal with a hole in it! Yippee! I finally have a faux Swarovski style crystal necklace just like the movie stars!
The professional advice mentioned in this weeks’ title Is the sageful missives imparted from said sister in reference to my electronic cry for help. She has practically written my Craft 2.0 application for me. Using her progressional capacity to impart words of wisdom, she has effortlessly brought together the fragmented components of my “unbalanced” thinking and giving me plenty to work with regard to my “off-kilter” tagline thoughts. (That sentence will have sis guffawing her head off) Why am I writing in such a quant but oft maligned styling? I have no idea but I’m on a roll so it shall remaineth.

In other news, I am about to begin the Week of Glam – I’m on leave from my full time concrete jungle job. I have an action packed week of jewelry and online social media work to get through. I’m getting serious about having a series of Saturdays at Wellington Underground Markets. This week will see me arranging an effective indoor stall design that includes height and signage. I’ll need to get laminating, put together some zinging price labels, and design a new temporary business card. Naturally, there will be pix a plenty on this very blog as well as on my Facebook page Glamour Twinkles Jewelry. I’m rather looking forward to it. Unless the table looks crappy – then I’ll give in and spend the week sulking and blaming others. Am I for real? Who knows! As you can see I’m in an odd blogging mood today. I like to mix things up so sue me. No, don’t sue me.
I bid you all, adieu!!

Swarovski Potion Necklace and Mini Ball Bearing Necklace worn 11 November 2010

I love my mini ball bearing bottle necklace (model’s own collection – chortle) and my Swarovski  Crystal Potion Necklace. They are genuine Swarovski gems and yes, they’re available on my Etsy shop, like the Blue Swarovski Necklace. “Hey, wouldn’t they would look great with a little black dress for a night on the tiles?”

Pink and Brown Velvet Handbag worn 11 November 2010

Thanks to all these helpful lessons I’ve been carrying around in my groovy pink and brown velvet handbag I’m learning all the top tips at Etsy.

This is just an example of one of my Etsy Lessons. They say that descriptions should include a recommendation of who would suit a particular piece. But I’ll have to be careful how I word them. What if I write “This necklace would suit someone with a neck”? I’m ignoring those people without necks!
